"Excellence is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle
Music Education Philosophy
All cultures have celebrated joys and victories along with mourned sorrows and defeats through the pure beauty of music. Students with a strong, well-rounded music education develop skills that will prepare them to be active citizens in society throughout their adult lives. For example, through performing and excelling as a musician, my students will learn the discipline and perseverance required to achieve their goals in life, regardless of their career choice. Music develops connections between mind and body. The theory of music demands an intellectual skill to understand the unification of physics and sound. In recognizing and interpreting melodies, harmonies, and rhythm, students will exercise their intellect in a new way. Performing on a musical instrument and singing helps to advance motor skills and coordination. Every student deserves a well-balanced music education. A comprehensive music program containing fundamental pillars such as performance, listening, creativity, and a deeper understanding of music provide students with skills that reach beyond the limits of a classroom. Therefore, music education is a necessary part of any complete academic curriculum.
